With spring winding down and summer right around the corner, we put together 5 ways to save money on your electricity bill during the warm months.

Leave the House

It may seem like a simply idea but by leaving the house and going to places where there is AC you save money. The library, Starbucks or your favorite coffee, shopping centers, the pool, all great places to escape the heat in your house and have some fun while you’re at it.

Buy A Programmable Thermostat

A programmable thermostat can work wonders for any household. In fact, the U.S. Department of Energy estimates that household can save 10% on their electric bills each year simply by turning the thermostat back 10 – 15 degrees for eight hours each day.

Buy a Whole House Fan

A whole house fan is a great way to cool down the entire house without turning on the AC. The way it works is pretty cool, the whole house fan sucks the hot air from inside the house and out through the attic. All you have to do is open the windows to let that breeze roll through. Unfortunately this setup doesn’t work for every house or area but if you can place one in your house, you’ll be sitting pretty.

Keep Your Windows Covered

A quick and easy way to keep the sun from shining into your house is by closing the blinds and curtains over your windows.

Take Cold Showers And Wash Clothes At Night

When it’s hot you’ll do anything to keep your body cool. Jump into the shower and take a cold shower, not only will it cool you down but you’ll also save money by not using the hot water.

By washing clothes at night, depending on your energy meter you can save money since the wee hours of the morning are not peak hours for most electric grids. You also can hang dry your clothes in the morning once the sun rises.
